Privacy Policy

Your privacy matters to us. This policy explains how TeeMatch collects, uses, and protects your information.

1. Information we collect

We collect information you provide when creating your account, including your name, email address, profile photo, location, and golf skill level. We also collect usage data such as app interactions, messages sent, and groups joined.

Your profile can also include a username, your handicap, a bio, when you're usually free to play, and your play style.

2. How we use your information

We use your information to provide and improve the TeeMatch experience, including matching you with nearby players and courses, enabling messaging and group features, and sending relevant notifications.

3. Information sharing

Other TeeMatch users can see your profile: your name, username, photo, skill level, handicap, bio, availability, play style, and the city or area you set. They can also see a reliability label ("Reliable" or "New here", based on rounds completed and no-shows), how many rounds you've played, the courses you're interested in, recent activity such as rounds played and groups joined, and golfers you have in common. They can see roughly how far away you are, and whether you've been active in the app recently.

Your email address and your exact location are never shown to other users.

We do not sell your personal information to third parties. We may share anonymized, aggregate data for analytics purposes.

4. Location data

TeeMatch uses your location to show nearby courses and players. Location data is stored securely and is only shared with other users at the level of detail you provide in your profile (city/region, not precise coordinates).

TeeMatch uses your location only while you're using the app, and you can type a city instead. Distances shown to other golfers are approximate: they're measured from your saved location rounded to a grid about 0.7 miles across, so your exact spot can't be worked out. To find courses near you, the app sends your location to Google Places.

5. Photos and camera

TeeMatch asks for your photo library when you choose a profile photo, a Group cover, or a photo to send in a chat, and for your camera only when you take a photo to send in a chat. We upload only the photos you choose. Your profile photo is shown to other golfers, a Group's cover is shown with the Group, and a photo you send in a chat is shown to the people in that chat.

6. Tee times, parties, and invites

When you post a tee time, other TeeMatch users can see it on the course, with its time, its open seats, and you as the host. When you ask for a seat, the host sees your request, and once you're approved you join the tee time's private Group and chat. A play request is seen only by you and the golfer you send it to.

Golfers in your party can see each other, and other golfers see your party as one card on Find a Golfer. An invite code lets whoever uses it first join your party, for 7 days, so share it only with the friend you mean to invite. Your likes and passes on Find a Golfer stay private unless you both like each other.

7. Calendar

If you tap Add to Calendar on a tee time, TeeMatch asks for access to your calendar and adds that tee time to it, with a reminder an hour before. It writes to your calendar only when you tap, and it doesn't read your other events. The app keeps the event's ID on your phone so it can update that event later; it isn't sent to us.

8. Notifications

If you allow notifications, we store a push token for your device so we can send them. They're delivered through Expo's push service and can include the sender's name and the start of a message. In Settings › Notifications you can turn off Messages, Tee Times, or Groups notifications, which we store with your account, or turn off Push Notifications to delete your device's token. Signing out deletes it too.

9. Feedback

When you use Send Feedback, from Settings or by shaking your phone, we store the message you write, whether it's a bug, feedback, or a suggestion, and which screen you were on. The TeeMatch team reads it to fix problems and improve the app. The app notices a shake using your phone's motion sensor; that data stays on your phone.

10. Blocking and reporting

When you block someone, we store that you blocked them. We don't notify them. They can no longer start a chat with you, and TeeMatch stops showing them to you on Find a Golfer and in player suggestions. You can unblock them in Settings › Blocked Users.

When you report a person, message, or Group, we store who and what you reported, the reason you chose, and any details you add. The TeeMatch team reviews reports. The person you report isn't told who reported them.

11. Data storage and security

Your data is stored securely using industry-standard encryption and hosted on trusted cloud infrastructure. We take reasonable measures to protect your information, but no system is completely secure.

12. Your rights

You can view and update your personal information in Edit Profile. To get a copy of your data, use Export My Data in Settings › Account. To delete your account and your data, use Delete Account in the same place. Messages you sent then show as deleted to the rest of the chat.

13. Third-party services

TeeMatch uses third-party services including Supabase for authentication and data storage, Google Maps and Google Places for maps and course information, and Expo for app delivery and push notifications. These services have their own privacy policies.

14. Changes to this policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes through the app. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance.
